  • Effective July 1, 2009, significant changes have been made to NRS 612.445 and penalties will be imposed for the commission of fraud.  Fraud is defined as making any false statement relating to a claim for benefits, deliberately withholding information to obtain benefits, failing to report all work and income during a week for which benefits is claimed, filing an unemployment claim while incarcerated or allowing another person to file a claim on your behalf while incarcerated and not disclosing the fact of being incarcerated, or using a name and/or Social Security Number other than your own to file a claim for benefits.  If you are found to have committed fraud, you WILL be disqualified until all money is repaid, plus any penalties and interest.  You may even be prosecuted for felony theft.

  • In Nevada, no deduction is made from workers' wages to finance the Unemployment Insurance (UI) program.  It is paid entirely by employers who are liable for coverage under the Nevada Revised Statutes.  Amounts deducted from workers' wages for Social Security do not help pay for the UI program.

Nevada 's claim week is from 12:01 Sunday to Saturday at midnight.  If you complete your application and receive the confirmation number on the final page of the form prior to midnight Saturday Pacific Time, your claim will begin the prior Sunday. Example: You complete your application and receive a confirmation on Saturday at 11:45 pm Pacific Time. Your claim will be effective the prior Sunday. sample Nevada Unemployment Benefit debit card

Nevada's method of payment is a prepaid debit card.  See example pictured to the right:

Paper checks will be discontinued as of March 15, 2013.  All individuals receiving paper checks will be provided with a Visa debit card in advance.  Starting in April 2013, the Employment Security Division will add the option of having your unemployment benefits transferred from your debit card directly into your checking or savings account. Your Nevada Visa Debit card must be used to establish a direct deposit account. Continued updates regarding the debit card and the direct deposit option will be posted online at www.expressclaim.org.

Effective December 1, 2012, there is an inactivity fee of $2.50 that may be applied to your card. If your card has a balance greater than zero(0) and there has been no activity on the card for twelve(12) consecutive months, the inactivity fee will be applied to the card. This inactivity fee will be applied each consecutive month of inactivity thereafter. New information regarding EUC Benefits effective March 2013:

The recent sequestration of federal benefits requires across-the-board reductions to many federal programs, including the Emergency Unemployment Compensation (EUC) program. This will result in a mandatory reduction to all weekly EUC benefits paid for a certain period of time. The amount and timeframe of the reduction have not yet been finalized. All individuals affected will receive additional information by mail. The telephone claims centers do not have any additional information at this time; updates will be posted as they become available.
